Understanding 2-Wire Push Button Switches
A 2-wire push button switch is one of the simplest electrical switches to wire. It contains only two terminals and acts as a basic ON/OFF control for electrical circuits. These switches are commonly used in industrial applications, control panels, and home automation systems.

Step-by-Step Wiring Instructions
Turn Off Power
Locate the appropriate circuit breaker and turn off power to the circuit you'll be working on. Use a voltage tester to confirm power is off.
Identify Switch Terminals
Examine your 2-wire push button switch. You'll see two terminals, typically labeled as "NO" (Normally Open) or simply numbered 1 and 2.
Connect Hot Wire
Connect the hot (live) wire from your power source to one terminal of the switch. Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation and secure the wire under the terminal screw.
Connect Load Wire
Connect a wire from the second terminal of the switch to your load device (light, motor, etc.). This wire carries power when the switch is pressed.
Complete the Circuit
Connect the neutral wire directly from your power source to the load device, bypassing the switch. The switch only controls the hot wire.
Test the Connection
Turn the power back on and test your switch. When pressed, it should activate your load device. If using a momentary switch, the device will only operate while the button is held.

Momentary Switch
Activates only while pressed and held. Returns to original position when released.

Latching Switch
Stays in the activated position until pressed again. Provides ON/OFF functionality.

Common Troubleshooting Issues
Switch doesn't work when pressed
Check all connections are tight, verify power is reaching the switch, and test the switch with a multimeter for continuity.
Load device stays on continuously
Switch contacts may be stuck closed. Replace the switch or check for debris in the mechanism.
Intermittent operation
Loose connections are the most common cause. Re-tighten all terminal screws and check wire condition.
