How to Wire a Toggle Switch
Complete wiring guide for toggle switches
Basic Toggle Switch Wiring
Safety Warning: Always turn off power at the circuit breaker before working with electrical wiring.
SPST (Single Pole Single Throw) Switch
- Connect hot wire (black) to one terminal
- Connect load wire to the other terminal
- Connect neutral wires together with wire nut
- Connect ground wires to switch ground screw
SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) Switch
- Common terminal: Connect incoming hot wire
- Terminal 1: Connect to first load
- Terminal 2: Connect to second load
- Ground all components properly
Wire Color Codes
Black - Hot/Live wire
White - Neutral wire
Green/Bare - Ground wire
